File Explorer Menu is a client application that uses the JFileServer client API to send custom requests to the file server over an existing authenticated mapped drive connection, that is using either SMB2 or SMB3.
The File Explorer Menu application adds a right click context menu within the Windows File Explorer application which requests custom actions to be performed on the selected files/folders on the server.
The context menu can be fully customised from the server, from the top level menu title, and icons to your own list of server actions on the sub-menu.
The client application can display message boxes and custom client side dialogs, such as the check in dialog.
The server side action can send back instructions to the client to display a message box, show a notification, open a URL and/or run an application on the client.
The File Explorer Menu client side application currently supports Windows 10 and 11, with versions for macOS and linux planned. It provides a ready built client application for use with your own client API implementation, plus there is a version for use with the fileServersNG Alfresco subsystem.
The client application runs as a system tray application, with a shell extension providing the context menu within Windows File Explorer.
The fileServersNG Alfresco subsystem implements the JFileServer client API interface to provide Java based actions as well as scripted actions using Javascript on the server. More details on how to implement a client API are available here, with links to the fileServersNG source code.
